Mission Statement

This project is a class assignment for Mechanical Engineering 452, Mechanical Design. This project will provide real world experience to the students in product design. The Kooka Component Company of Carson City, NV. is providing both financial sponsorship and technical support to this project.

The objective of this project is to perform the marketing study and the design for a multi-purpose tool for making trail-side repairs on mountain bikes. The class has been broken down into six teams that are in competition. Each team will design their own tool, to be judged by Dr. Eric Wang, and Kooka President Greg Burns. The final winning design will be manufactured and sold by Kooka Components.

Final Design Concept

This tool is a two piece design held together with a velcro strap. The first piece holds the chain breaker tool, flat head and phillips head screw drivers.

The second piece has the 8, 10, 14 mm hex wrench as well as the two spoke wrenches. This tool also includes 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 allen wrenches held on the tool in sockets on both pieces.Both pieces will be CNC machined from 6061 Aluminum bar stock. The allen wrenches can be bought pre-made from any tool suppler. The chain breaker screw will be lathed on the CNC lathe. The strap will be bought from a bike supply warehouse.
