Using the RCX for the first time

If you are using the RCX for the first time or you recently changed the batteries, you must download the firmware (operating system) to the RCX. You must be using Robolab on the MECH 151 host computer at the front of the walk-in lab (SEM 231A). The username is: me151, the password is: lego.

Only use the MECH 151 host computer to download firmware – for regular programming, use a standard terminal in the ECC (see Using Robolab in the ECC).

On the main Robolab window (Figure 1), click on the Administrator button (if the administrator button is not shown, press the F5 function key). Place your RCX in front of the IR tower and click on the Download Firmware button (Figure 2). You will see the RCX display indicating the number of lines of code downloaded so far (there are approximately 1700 total). A progress window will also display percent completed.

DO NOT CLOSE ROBOLAB OR THE ROBOLAB SERVER!!!
