MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT
Innovative magnetorheological (MR) materials are prepared for specific applications by collaborations between the Chemical Engineering Department at UNR and the CIML team.
MATERIAL CHARACTERIZATIONS
The rheological properties of MR materials are studied for their field dependency, as well as, evaluating the effects of additives and temperature.
DEVICE DEVELOPMENT
CIML can offer a total MR system package. This includes materials development, the device design and fabrication, and the control system. MR devices such as controllable shock absorbers, clutches, brakes, and micro systems are constructed.
EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES
Experimental setups are constructed to meet device specific applications that demonstrate practical performance. Complete system analysis is carried out within the controlled environment at the CIML facilities.
THEORETICAL STUDIES
Theoretical models are developed for non-linear behavior of MR materials and devices. Electromagnetic, structural and computational fluid dynamics analyses are carried out to obtain an understanding of the material and system performance.
CONTROL SYSYEMS
Control system architecture is based on applications and environmental requirements to complete the total package for a MR system. Robust control algorithms are applied through efficient compact hardware built by the CIML team.
